L.W.O.D. '08 pt. 1: Days 1-3

So here it is, the post.
L.W.O.D. '08 had all the makings of epicness that you've come to expect from me, however it ended up being much more... some word that doesn't mean 'epicness.' It wasn't bad at all, I had a really good time, just much more laid back than I was expecting. I think butt? and dude? were pretty wiped out generally after day 2. Find out more!

Day 1 (Sat):
I got off work and headed over to Gotanda to meet up with dude? who had been working his ways on express trains throughout the day from Osaka. I can't remember how long it took, maybe he'll comment about that later, but it was a looooong ride that's for sure, お疲れ様! We headed back on the train to my place, met Meltin faces, and mornin and got ready to go over to Ramen 526. You can see the Scrumped review here. This turned out to be a really bad idea. It was really tasty (as always) but it was just so unbelievably filling that for the first half of the Conbini challenge pretty much all we could muster as far as commentary was 'uhhhhhh.' It was pretty bad. But the conbini challenge ended up being a winner. After a break in the middle at a Lawson that didn't sell beer! We all made a bathroom trip and felt back on the right path and we eventually made it back to my place for a bunch more drinks and some rocktacular Karaoke action! mornin played cameraman and got some really good pics from the challenge, the two best were for sure this little series: you had to be there to get the full effect, but me turning my head ruined dude?'s attempt to pull my 'tongue in the ear' photo trick.
There are a ton of good pictures from this night, and I might put another post about it, or put them up on flickr some time, wait for it...
here's an amazing shot from karaoke:
Day 2 (SUN):
Got up at a pretty decent hour and prepared to head out over to Jingu Stadium for the first of a 3-day baseball extravaganza! I woke up feeling a little hung over and with a completely trashed voice, but I downed a bunch of water hoping to feel a bit better before we headed out... it didn't work. I started to feel really sick while we sat around and played some NCAA so I made a trip to call the dinosaurs and suddenly felt a ton better! So we headed out and hoped for the best but got the worst. We got in and got our seats and went around to some of the shops at the stadium waiting for it to start, praying that the rain would subside. It got worse and worse and right about first pitch time, there was an announcement made that the game was being canceled. What a crushing defeat. We had been looking forward to all the games on the schedule, but none more than the first one, at the best stadium on the tour, and the only game featuring the Hanshin Tigers. It was a sad day, and we just headed back, played NCAA and did an auction draft for a fantasy football league... disappointing...

Day 3 (MON):
Got up, played some more NCAA then headed down to Yokohama stadium for game 2. More rain and dude? hadn't been feeling so good but we were just hoping that game would be played as scheduled. Luckily it was! We got in our seats but found that although they we good (1st row) it was a pain in the ass because vendors constantly walked directly in front of us so we headed further up in the stands and were asked to move a bit closer because the seats we were in hadn't actually been sold. The security guy was nice enough about it and just told us to move down a few rows. There were many, many seats to choose from. When the game started there couldn't have been more than 2000 people there and although more people came later in the game, after the rains had calmed down a bit, it couldn't have been the more than 8000 people that the newspaper said it was the next day. I'd guess 4500 or so. Carp came away with a 3-2 victory, and it was a pretty good game to take in.

ninety9bottles!

Check it out! ninety9bottles is a site that dude? is working on as a place to... well, not sure just yet... he actually hasn't made a real post so get on over there and hound him to get to work! Click the name to visit his site!

I love rain, but this is out of hand... get Noah on the horn, I need his services...

I'm pretty sure that that was the longest post title in no airplay's history, but it came to me in a vision...
It's been over a week where we have had sudden, amazing downpours everyday. You never know when they're coming, and that's why the Japanese call them ゲリラ豪雨 (gerira gouu) meaning "guerrilla downpour." It makes perfect sense. Some days have been constant rain, but others have been these torrential rains that spring up between the time you walk into 7-11 and the time you walk out... like tonight. The other big thing has been the lightning and thunder that has rocked the area, some of the most intense L/T action I've ever seen. Just ridiculous. I like the L/T action plenty, except when it messes up the trains so that they are either wickedly crowded, or wickedly late. Then we have words! I'll try and capture a better pick to put up here but for now you can take a look at a pic I took of the lines of taxis outside of my place the other night at 1:30am because of the delayed or suspended trains:

猫のまほう

ahhhh, the cat cafe! It's about time I got around to posting about this on here. You can read my review over on Scrumped, but now for some real insight! So I must first confess that I am a cat lover. My family has had cats (mostly scooped up from various places by my sister) for as long as I can recall, and I've been lucky to encounter a fair number of them with good personallity and style, so I am partial. But the idea of a cafe where you pay to play with them struck me as more than dorky, see:but it was a blogging chance I just couldn't pass up. I wasn't let down. The place was nice enough, the food was decent and the selction of cats was pretty varied. Who would pass up on the opportunity to drink beer and play with cats? Maybe dude? but who else?
I would like to make a return visit someday, maybe late night, when the cats are at their peak awakeness, but for now I think my desire for some pussy action has been satisfied plenty! meow! WAKE UP!

the quiet before the storm...

So here I sit on a shortish break at work just counting down until 5:40pm tomorrow evening when the L.W.O.D. '08 will begin. I've got about 7 and a half hours left for today and 7 and a half tomorrow... I'm so pumped! Yesterday Meltin faces and I did a trial run of the conbini challenge, walking Saturday's route and drinking only 4 beers (less than half the requirement) along the way, and found ourselves pretty drunk. Can't wait for the real deal! It took us a little less than an hour at a pretty snail's pace, which will figure to be about doubled tomorrow night. One reason I wanted to walk the route was that I wasn't certain that all the shops sold the kind of beverages we were after, as fortune would have it, they do! And thanks to mornin's keen eye (for better or worse), we were able to add one more stop to the route. There remain a couple questions in my mind as to how everthing will work out, namely:
1. will we be able to add a T.O.C. to the roster of events?
2. when will be the optimum time to hit up Ramen 526?
3. how/when will we record a new episode of the much beloved and much anticipated "home by 8, drunk by 10"?
So much to do, so little time...

NCAA `09

So, as I`ve said, I am completely controlled by this game. It`s prevented me from doing a real show in a long time, and haven`t done a post other than the crappy shows I`ve been churning out but here you go...

One cool thing that NCAA allows you to do is to take pictures or record videos and upload them to a server and share them with your friends. Problem is that if I download the videos I can`t get them to play... but here are some pictures that I was able to get off the server:dorky I know...
